Well, I'd love to tell you all about what I've been up to lately, but I don't really have time right now. I have the first round of exams flying at me, so I probably won't have much on here for a couple weeks. Thursday is anatomy, then I have 3 exams next week and one on the Monday after that. Suffice it to say that my weekend with Ryan here was absolutely wonderful and we all had a great time snow tubing. That will have to do for now, though - I need some sleep.
Take care!

Two Wonderful Years!
Okay, if you don't want to read mushy stuff about me and Ryan, consider yourself forewarned not to keep reading.
Today is our 2-year anniversary! It's hard to believe sometimes that it's been that long (time flies when you're having fun). Other times, it feels like we know each other so well that it could have been twice that long (but in a good way, of course). While it's a bummer that we couldn't be together today, I'm really excited that Ryan will be here this weekend. We have so much to celebrate and I have so much to show him around Ames! (Okay, not THAT much, it's no metropolis, but enought to fill a weekend.) He also gets to meet some of my closest friends here, which will be nice. Assuming the conditions are good, we'll be going snow tubing, too. This will also probably be a combo celebration of Valentine's Day, 'since Ryan has Meta that weekend and I have an exam on V-day. So it's just all sorts of wonderful all rolled into one, just like our relationship! ;-) Not to brag, but I'm a very lucky girl to have such a nice, fun guy to call my own who isn't afraid or unwilling to have a long-distance relationship. It's meant a lot to me to have his support for my dream even though it took me far away. That is yet another dream come true! Sigh... God has been super-generous with me, that's for sure! Well, I should get to bed so I can have Happy 2-year Anniversary dreams! :-D

Broken Things
It seems that nothing can stay fixed for long around me. First the toilet leaked, my cell phone broke a couple times, then the garage didn't want to open, then we had issues with the crappy old apartment corded phone, and the newer cordless phone didn't like the outlet, I can't figure out how to get the VCR to work, my car's heat wasn't working, the phone line wasn't working, and tonight my car's door sensor (which was supposedly fixed just recently) broke again. I had to pull out a fuse (again) so it wouldn't constantly think its doors are open and kill my battery with the dome light. Stupid car, the doors are quite obviously all closed. And most upsetting of all, my plans for the weekend are broken. Ryan was supposed to be coming up to celebrate our two-year anniversary(it's on the 25th), but his senior design class has a huge thing due that will take him all weekend to finish. That stinkin' class sure ruins our plans a lot! Yes, I am a bit bitter about that. (Side note to Ryan - don't take any of this personally - I'm just venting. I know you'd rather be here this weekend.) We're hoping he can come next weekend instead, but it's not an ideal weekend for me (per my exam schedule, and 'cause then it's after-the-fact) and I wouldn't put it past the design class to ruin those plans, too... If next weekend doesn't work, the plans are totally scrapped 'cause the next couple weekends won't work either. Argh. My rabbit's attitude is seriously broken lately too - I don't know what's gotten into her, but she's being VERY bad and I'm annoyed enough by other things that I'd be tempted to turn her into stew if she wasn't so small.
At least I didn't have a bad reaction to my rabies vaccination yesterday.
I just need to break this habit, or all my patient are going to re-break and be re-infected and un-fix themselves. (So much for neutering and spaying...) Oy.

Back Online
So the phone line somehow is fixed. Yes, I did say "somehow" because as of about 6:30 tonight, it still wasn't working, and then around 7pm THE PHONE RANG!! It was very bizarre. Since it first went out our phone company continually denied they were to blame, our maintenence guy came in to check it out, but left no notice of what, if anything he found or planned to do and it hadn't spontaneously fixed itself... until tonight. Very odd, but I can't complain as I've been itching to sign on AIM and blog and such.
Well, it's been pretty good back in Iowa once they got the roads cleared up. Sledding with Mimi and Tim was good fun - we made ramps! My sled was defective (only useful in packing down ramps), so I took it back. I plan to get one I saw the other day at ACE for the next sledding outing. We've also discovered a place we can go snow tubing a few miles away, so that should be loads of fun.
My first week of classes went pretty well, and I don't feel overwhelmed or left behind so far. We have a goat in anatomy this semester - I named him Percy. He's very obese, but not a terrible specimen so far. It was nice to have Monday off this week, too bad we can't skip EVERY Monday ;-) ... Well, that's all I've got for now.

Phone Line Issues
Okay, so I don't know when this will be appreciably updated next. My phone line in the apartment decided to die on me last night, and now I can't get a dial-tone to sign online. It's not the external wires (the phone company checked) so it's up to my landlord's maintenance department to fix it. I'm guessing they'll get back to me no sooner than Tuesday, since Monday is a holiday, and it may take awhile after that to get things fixed. I'm not looking forward to the internet withdrawl that will ensue... In the meantime, I don't feel right taking lots of time at school (where I am now) using their bandwidth to write blog entries. Additionally, you can't get AIM express to work on their machines and I doubt regular AIM can be put on them, so I don't know when I'll be available to chat again. :-( Just thought I should warn you so nobody thinks I'm dead. (Not that many people read this thing anyway.)
P.S. - I'll still be checking this for comments!!

Winter Arrived As I Left
So a lot has happened since I blogged last. Ryan and I continued to have a wonderful time. We did some more shopping, hung out with family playing Battle of the Sexes (yes, guys - a loofah is a real thing!), saw Ocean's 12, partied, and ate lots of yummy stuff. I made bananna bread again, and everybody loved it again. (Apparently it's my current specialty, along with chocolate and fruity crispy treats.) We went to Isaac and Lauren's New Year's Eve party. It was SOOO MUCH FUN!!! (As Lauren would say.) It was really great to see some of the people I'd done IV stuff with since 2000. I think there were like 30 people there. We had games and junk food and sparkling juices and poppers - it was really a good time. The next day we had Ryan's New Year's Day party, where I got to see the younger IVers. Ryan set up two TVs so that there could be two different bowl games on at the same time. Talk about football fanatic utopia. It wasn't just a football party, though - there were lots of board games and people to chat with and air hockey and DIRT CAKE (thanks, Karen). We had like 20 people come, which was exactly what we'd hoped for. Josh liked his Spiderman calendar, too! Hooray!
Sunday came and I had to go home. I got honked at while stopped at a toll booth because it takes a lot longer to dig out and 80 cent toll than a 40 cent one (they doubled after the New Year), especially if you're out of quarters. I watched Spiderman 2 with my parents that night - they've finally moved up to DVDs now, I'm so proud. Monday was Mom's birthday, so I ran errands and cooked and such for Mom. Chris and Mandy came over for dinner and gifts and games, too. Boy got Texas Hold 'Em for a b-day gift, so we played some of that. We called the game on account of time and I was in second (Boy was leading). It was a good visit.
Tuesday it was time for me to get on the road again and return to Iowa. It was also time for a morning ice storm and evening snow storm in Iowa. I tried my best to do all my driving between the worst of the two systems. I saw LOTS of semis in/across the ditches, and my wipers and windshield kept icing up, but I made it back okay. Iowans drive like grannies when it's snowing, even in the road is salted and clear. However, I figured out why that was the next day when I tried to run some errands - THE SNOW REMOVAL HERE IS TERRIBLE!! They don't put the plow blade down far enough and they seems to have forgotten how useful salt is anywhere except on the highways. And, as I discovered, that doesn't apply to the on/off ramps. I saw this too late on my way home and went sliding into a cement barrier. Luckily, lots of ice and snow protected my car and it escaped with only a scraped bumper. I was fine, just freaked out. Thursday, I took the car in to get the heat fixed, as it still wasn't doing its job too well. They charged a lot, but at least I am toasty warm in my car now. It was also toasty working up a sweat before all that to clear our driveway that had a 4-ft drift over part of it and the full 16 inches we got elsewhere. Otherwise, Lisa and I could not even move our cars (she picked me up/dropped me off at the repair garage). Luckily, our neighbors (the Mom and son who I hear all the time) helped us out. Yay for friendly assistance! Boo for lack of plows doing it for us like they're supposed to and pains in my back! They didn't even come for the second time until tonight after 6pm, and all they did was make a barrier for me to drive over in front of my garage... I can't win with the snow up here. The roads are all still snow-packed and salt-less in town, only the busiest ones have semi-clear tacks to drive in. Oh well, it's better than it was.
Other than that, I've been spending Christmas money and trying to get things in order before the semester starts. I also went to movie night tonight, and plan to go sledding tomorrow. Should be fun times. For now, it's BEDTIME!
