So I should probably be working on some cases for Radiology right now. Or maybe doing some VetPrep questions to study for boards. However, that's all I've done ALL DAY today, so I'm a bit tired of it. Our one potential patient to radiograph is not stable in ICU yet, so we're severely lacking in stimulation. Thus, this not-even-been-a-month-yet blog entry!! Aren't you a lucky reader.
Radiology is an oxymoron of a rotation because it's easy but hard. It's an incredibly laid-back schedule and the techs are all really nice and fun to work with. However, there is a lot of technical difficulty in evaluating x-rays. It's really not one of those things where you can often say "Oooh, look at this really obvious problem!" Or if you can, there are lots of other more subtle things you have to find and describe, too. I enjoy radiology, but I'm less and less fond of it the longer I do ONLY radiology, and the more I continue to feel clueless while gazing helplessly at the films. I've been glad to get the extra time to study for boards, though. I've definately discovered some weak areas in my education. (COUGH COUGH pharmacology COUGH COUGH toxicology COUGH COUGH parasitology COUGH COUGH)
Walter doesn't like being on a diet. He isn't even on a strict one. Most vets say 1/4 cup twice a day is plenty and he's getting 1/3 cup twice a day. Then again, I don't like not eating junk food, let alone less normal food, too. However, I'm going to try to not bring any new junk food home. (Yes, again. Maybe it will last this time.) Too bad that doesn't stop me from eating all the junk food they have around the school!
Ryan brought me pumpkins as a surprise when he visited a few weekends ago. I think the last time I carved a pumpkin was in 2003, so that was a lot of fun. I carved "The Cheat" onto mine, and it looked snazzy. I still have two more pumpkins left, so I will try carving them for Thanksgiving if I have time and they haven't rotted. One will say "GIVE" and the other will say "THANKS". Ryan is coming to visit me for Thanksgiving, too, since I don't get enough time off to travel to IL.
As a random question to each of you, how many of you went to a high school in a "unit district"? (For instance, Riverton, where I went, is Community Unit District #14.) I guess I didn't realize that other types of school systems existed in public schools in IL, but apparently they do. Ryan would prefer NOT to teach in a unit district (they tend to pay less and have less ideal resources), so that's where this topic came from.
Well, my lunch break is over, so I guess I'll wander downstairs and see if we have anything to do. Take care.
